From Big W to Building Award-Winning Legal Practices: Stacy’s Story
Welcome to The StacyM Show – a podcast (and now, a blog!) where I share stories, tips, and life lessons from my journey as a lawyer, business owner, mum, and, as of today, podcaster.
If you don’t know me yet, I’m Stacy Munzenberger – the founder of Aqua Legal & Conveyancing in New South Wales and All Star Conveyancing in Queensland. I also co-own a mortgage broking business called Confetti Finance. When I say I like to keep busy, I really mean it.
But this blog isn’t just about me. It’s about how I got here and why I’m passionate about doing law differently.
How It All Started (Spoiler: It Wasn’t Planned)
Becoming a lawyer wasn’t always the plan. In fact, I was working as a supervisor at Big W (for those outside Australia – it’s a department store) when I decided to give university a shot through Newcastle University’s Open Foundation program.
To be honest, I was a pretty average student. I left school at the end of Year 11 and probably wouldn’t have made it to university if I’d stuck around. But something clicked when I took a law subject – and then another. I really enjoyed it.
When I told people I was thinking of becoming a lawyer, I was laughed at. I was told I wasn’t smart enough. That moment lit a fire in me. Six years later, I proved them wrong when I was admitted as a lawyer in 2010.
Building Aqua Legal & Conveyancing
After years of working in big firms, I wanted to create something different – something more personal, more flexible, and more human. In 2016, I started my own mobile legal practice from my living room. (No kitchen table – we didn’t even have one back then!)
The business grew quickly, and soon it was time to open physical offices and rebrand to Aqua Legal & Conveyancing.
Aqua isn’t your typical legal practice. We offer expert conveyancing and estate planning, but we also pride ourselves on a holistic, client-first approach. My amazing team supports our clients not just legally, but emotionally and practically too.
Expanding Across Borders
In 2020, right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, I launched All Star Conveyancing in Queensland with my university friend, Joey. It wasn’t planned – it happened in a day! But it’s now a thriving business helping clients with conveyancing across Queensland.
Then in 2023, I thought, “Why not add one more thing?” That’s when Confetti Finance was born – a mortgage broking business designed to help our clients find the best home loan solutions.
More Than Just Legal Services
Outside of law and finance, I’m also a Rapid Transformational Therapist (RTT), hypnotherapist, and mindfulness instructor. These are topics I’m super passionate about, and they’ve shaped how I support clients, how I manage my teams, and how I run my businesses.
